Software
|
|
|
By day, I'm a Java consultant and I develop enterprise Java
applications for ObjectPartners in a state
firmly on the side of Pop
(vs. soda),
Minnesota, USA.
I work primarily with Java, but have also worked with Python, Groovy, C, C++, Perl, Tcl,
BeanShell, Bash, Bourne shell, and Ruby.
|
|
I'm working on a Java enterprise application for the
ThirdWayNetwork, a local non-profit housing agency
that has a really excellent approach to helping people get
into long-term housing.
|
|
I cover Java software development, JavaEE, SOAP, XML, IDEs, tools and techniques,
software development on Linux, and Linux-based PDAs in my Web log,
Java:
Near to the Barking Seals.
I promise to update my Web log prior to the end of all time on the Mayan calendar
(a date which is not too far away).
|
|
This site includes a boat-load of links, links I maintain to help
my ongoing projects.
|
|
In addition to my day job, I write on the side.

Articles
|
|
|
I wrote columns and feature articles for the now defunct
Computer User,
including the
Linux Digest.
Some of these articles are available as a digital download, at
Amazon.com, including
Catch MONO on Linux.
|
|
I wrote online dispatches for
ITWorld.com, which produces
LinuxWorld.
I wrote the
Linux Desktop Applications newsletter and I wrote some
of the past
IT Career Advisornewsletters.
|
|
I've also written articles for a number of other publications,
most of which went defunct in the aftermath of the 2001 tech
industry downturn. These include a
Review of Kondara MNU/Linux (have a "goro-goro" day.), a review of
Borland's JBuilder Java Integrated Development Environment,
and other articles for LinuxPlanet and LinuxProgramming.
|
|
I co-wrote the Crossthoughts column in
UNIX Review's Performance Computing magazine. Some of the old
content is still available on the
Unix Review site.

The top photo comes from the Ring of Brodgar on the Orkney
Islands north of Scotland, a great place to visit. The photo
of me comes from Pidgeon Falls, an international park between
Canada and the US.

Design
|
|
|
I tried to design this page using the grid layout techniques described
by Khoi Vinh
in a number of excellent articles
and merge those techniques with my attempts to auto-generate link pages
and maintain a somewhat consistent look with what I had previously.
All design mistakes are my own.
